Treasures Of The Heart

My son was a big collector. His collections were not always of items I understood, but they were his. Everything was referred to as a treasure.

He saw a treasure, but I saw trash.

His mind could take a little trinket and turn it into something wonderful. He would hold onto it like it was worth a million dollars. He would add it to his collection of treasures that only he knew what the true meaning was.

This week in my book club I read the book  Treasures of the Heart. This book was a gift to my Mom and I share it each year with the kids on Mother’s Day week.

A son shows his Mom his most valuable treasures under his bed.  The boy can share a time, place, and memory to all his clutter and hopes his Mom will see it too.

When I read this book my eyes always fill with tears. I am reminded of the innocence of childhood and how important our treasures are.

I bought my son a big treasure box. When he was ready he could put the treasure into it to save. I know one day when he is older and he opens the box he will be filled with childhood memories of those small trinkets that were once the treasures of his heart.

  1. “He saw a treasure, but I saw trash.” So powerful and a good reminder to try and see our children’s world through their eyes ❤️.

Happy Mother’s Day miss suzanne 🥰

    1. Thank you!!! They see so much beauty and sparkle that reminds us sometimes of what our eyes are missing. Thank goodness they are our treasure hunters 🙂

  2. This is such a sweet idea and I’ll have to get the book. Although my three year old is really into pirates right now, he talks about treasure and I could still use this activity. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

  3. So sweet! I’m glad there are books that can take us back to certain moments in life and fill our hearts with so much joy!

  4. This is such a lovely idea! I would have loved this as a kid- in fact, I have a little treasure box now full of little trinkets I collected while travelling.

  5. This is so sweet! My son is very similar. He has a storage drawer that is his treasure box. Sometimes I wish he’d just clean it all out, but this is a great reminder that a child’s imagination and what they hold dear have so much meaning to them — and that’s something to be respected.

  6. What a lovely gift to give your son. When he’s older and looking back at everything I can imagine how special it will be for him 🙂
