A Hummingbird Visited My Class

Miss Suzanne

A Hummingbird visited my class today and stayed awhile.

This week was filled with many surprises in my class. One day a parent ordered pizzas with cupcakes for dessert. On another day friends brought us muffins for breakfast.

But today, we had a surprise that was not edible. After we returned to our class from playing with hula hoops, we noticed that a Hummingbird was zooming around our room.

The kids all gasped with excitement and started chasing it, heย was very scared.

We talked about how scary it must be to be in a new place that was not his home.

As the Humminbird flew corner to corner of the room we came up with ways that we could gently guide him out of our class.

It soon became obvious that he was not going to leave. The kids sat quietly and were concerned that our new friend would not find his family.

We decided to take a walk and let our Hummingbird have some space.

When we returned to our class an hour later, he was still there. This time we decided to not pay any attention to him. Maybe if we just kept our class going as usual he would find the door and fly out.

He flew back and forth over our heads.

Suddenly, he landed on a box of legos, looked at us, and flew straight out of the classroom.ย  We all cheered.

I told the kids that the Hummingbird was like them. He needed to figure out on his own how to find the way out. We could guide him. But when he was ready he did it on his own.

A Hummingbird visited my class today and stayed awhile. Reminding us even when we are scared we will always find our way home.

  2. Hi Suzanne and Happy weekend to you…

I love birds and found this to be very touching…I feed every night about 200 birds and I now have a big container with water and the birds take their bread over to get it wet.. and play in the water….. All animals are beautiful, Thank You, for sending these photos…… well I have learned something this day,….Legos are not an attraction to humming birds..
